L’Oréal: Derma Control – Skin Defense

Mapshot turned skincare into a battlefield. In Skin Defense, players team up to fight off waves of gooey, acne-inspired monsters using a suite of custom-built L’Oréal weapons and tools.

Case

To raise awareness for L’Oréal’s Derma Control line, Mapshot transformed skincare into an engaging Fortnite experience that resonates with Gen Z audiences.

Map concept

Mapshot created a fully custom L’Oréal Fortnite map inspired by their new acne skincare product line. The experience can be played solo or with up to 4 players. With co-op play encouraging teamwork and strategic turret placement across the map.

The objective is simple but intense: survive as many waves of pimple monsters as possible. After each wave, players receive a random selection of upgrades they can use to improve their defenses and adapt their strategy.

The launch was supported by an influencer campaign and a contest, where players who survived the most waves had the chance to win exclusive prizes.

Pimple monsters

Mapshot designed several types of pimple monsters, each with different levels of strength. The game starts with Level 1 enemies, and as the waves progress, tougher monster types are added to increase the challenge and keep players engaged.

Custom weapons

Each weapon is inspired by the new L’Oréal product line. When equipped, players receive a matching backpack connected to the nozzle-style weapon via a hose. The weapons shoot skincare cream and add a fun, branded twist to the combat.

Turrets

Players can unlock and strategically place turrets to help defend against enemy waves. Each turret is modeled after the nozzle of a L’Oréal product and can be upgraded throughout the game for more power and efficiency.
