My Africa: Elephant Keeper VR
OFFICIAL SELECTION: TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL 2018
OFFICIAL SELECTION: AFI DOCS 2018
CHALLENGE
Following on from MY AFRICA 360VR film, Conservation International wanted to create empathy and connection with work at the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Northern Kenya.
SOLUTION
Vision3 created a full recreation of the elephant sanctuary in Unity with 6DOF immersive movement integrating real world props.
Users complete tasks to welcome and feed the baby elephant named Dudu to the sanctuary, using real world props to create an innovative and photo realistic interactive VR experience. As each task is satisfactorily completed it is checked on the whiteboard in the camp and instructions continue.
Following the incredible story of community led conservation action, Vision3 wanted to enable audiences to have an opportunity to participate themselves in the vital work carried out by the dedicated team as a rescued Elephant arrives at the sanctuary.
On location at the Retiti Elephant Sanctuary, Vision3 was able to capture the real life surrounding in detail with thousands of high resolution photos. At Vision3’s London base, the team built the environment within Unity, and worked closely with HTC VIVE to create a tactile experience that foregoes controllers and buttons – instead allowing audience to interact with a real objects like a sponge and bottle.
