About AcuMap
AcuMap is the world’s first VR solution for acupuncture. It is a comprehensive, medically accurate mapping of the human body with 14 meridians and 361 acupoints visualized in 3D.
For example, medical instructors, students and health practitioners can better teach and learn about the unique characteristics of Yin-Yang, Five Elements and Exterior-Interior of each acupoint and their relationships with anatomical structures together with their peers in a VR session.
Why AcuMap?
Acupuncture is a widely-accepted alternative to train pain. This is why we made AcuMap — a VR training solution for acupuncture based on a visualized, high- fidelity model — to better educate individuals about their body, better help educators teach their courses, and better prepare students to become the next generation of doctors. Our goal is to offer an enjoyable, modern-day teaching and learning experience for all.
Case Study
AcuMap is being used by students at universities, including Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and China Medical University, to learn about human anatomy and to practice acupuncture.
With AcuMap, you can study the virtual human model from 360 degrees to closely observe the insides and outsides of the human model, and to understand the vessels, nerves, muscles and bones underneath the acupuncture points.
“The traditional way of learning acupoints does not allow students to understand the muscles or nerves underneath each acupoint. But with virtual reality, you know the exact direction your needle should go,” said Dr. Hung-Chien Wu. “This will help students practice, and boost their confidence.”
Yang Wei An, a student at TCM, echoed that AcuMap has helped him locate blood veseels and avoid touching them while practicing needling. The ability to see the depth of the needle in VR during acupuncture practice has also helped reassure the students.
