Auggie Awards 2022 ‘Best Use of AI’ Winner
Volu is a mobile application developed by Volograms that enables users to create, play with, and share volumetric 3D holograms—known as volograms—using just a smartphone. By recording a short video of a person, the app employs advanced AI and computer vision technologies to transform the footage into a 3D model, allowing for immersive augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences.

- Capture: Record a video of a person using your smartphone; the app processes this into a 3D vologram.
- Play: Place volograms in your environment, resize them, and apply full-body AR effects called “Superpowers” to enhance creativity.
- Create & Share: Collaborate with others and share your volograms across social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat.
To promote AWE 2022, Volograms partnered with Arcturus and 8th Wall to create an interactive experience where viewers can see AWE co-founder, Ori Inbar, placed in any space around them simply from a link on their smartphone or computer.
Instead of going to a multi-camera studio that only certain budgets can afford, Ori only required his smartphone device to capture himself from home. Captured on Volu and exported through Volu Pro, Ori’s vologram was put into Arcturus’ steaming servers and displayed on webAR using 8th Wall.
Once clicking the link, viewers are shown their own environment around them through their devices camera and can tap the place they want Ori to appear. Once they place Ori, he delivers a special message inviting viewers to come to AWE USA 2022.
