Background
Facebook means connection and sharing — just ask the 2.8 billion people who use it to chat with friends, see photos of cute pets or check in with Grandma and Grandpa. The company has developed vast multi-media platforms to help families across the globe spend time together even when apart.
Facebook Portal, a new device that facilitates video messaging, is an example of how FB is connecting families, business associates and friends. Portal requires high-quality, engaging content — and to meet that need FB created Story Time and tapped Invisible Thread to develop AR stories for the new platform.
Solution
Invisible Thread is the ideal content creator for Facebook Story Time. The IT team is responsible for some of the most iconic visual effects in the history of movie making—featured in films like Avatar, Harry Potter, Spiderman and the Matrix. They also focus on data visualizations — exploring the impact of climate change and tackling many additional projects that support societal good.

“Invisible Thread goes above and beyond in every project I’ve worked on with them. They hear our ideas and goals, then work within tight constraints to deliver productions that exceed expectations we thought possible. We choose to collaborate and partner with them on every level because of this.
Invisible Thread thinks about our projects from not just creative or technical angles, but also the perspective of the audience/end user and how we are bettering the world through our content.”

Facebook Story Time Producer
When Portal needed a talented partner to transform books into immersive Story Time experiences — Invisible Thread was the best possible choice. They brought the magic of augmented reality to the well-loved tales with custom scenes and filters that engage the whole family. Parents and grandparents joined children inside the story and experienced the fantasy world together.
Animated characters, music, AR masks and special effects bring the books to life and families together — even when grandparents couldn’t be in the same room. Today, Story Time stories and imaginative characters can be enjoyed long distance or sitting next to each other like a traditional bedtime ritual or beloved bonding experience.

Results
Invisible Thread has created the most well liked of all the AR Story Time experiences — extremely popular among children, parents and grandparents alike. Their content is consistently in the top three selections and usually captures the top spot. To the IT team though what is gratifying is staying true to FB’s promise: ‘If you can’t be there, feel there with Portal.’ Last year what really mattered was that Invisible Thread’s stories connected thousands of families separated by the virus and kept them close during trying times.
